Class routines are falling into place. We are starting week 4 next week. Hard to imagine we have to have enough grades in 10 days for a mid-year report card.
The kiddos loved our digital microscope. We took a few minutes to explore things on bodies under the microscope. The curiosity is amazing as it leads to questions that will promote learning. We started a germ experiment with potatoes and clean and dirty hands. It is real life and the kiddos really remember real things. They also can smell all day the decomposition of those said potatoes. We will observe and compost those potatoes the front of the week.
We started sending home our class travel buddy, Eli to visit Mariah for a week. We will also start sending home our surprise sack. Students pick one thing from home, put it in the bag. They give three clues about the object- unseen. The other students guess what the object hiding could be. There is also time for the sharer to give details and answer questions about the object in the surprise sack. More language enrichment in real time.
Writer's Workshop is growing. Student driven paper choice came about this week. I just love it!! Hopefully kiddos will remember to bring in personal photos and pictures of things they like to decorate journals/ notebooks this week.
We continue to learn parts of numbers. This week is number 7.
We completed beginning decoding surveys this week. BDS. It gives us an indication of where the holes are in the reading acquisition and decoding of short vowel words. Next week is math numeracy skills check up. All the one on one testing is not an easy task.
What am I thinking about this week:
Hamilton Chicago opens soon- cannot wait to hear the reviews
Geraldine the Giraffe book came in the mail- kiddos have a treat coming!! cannot wait to share with them
Outdoor Pokemon movie this Friday with the community- hope to see some kiddos there!
