When do I get to know my student's teacher/ classroom? Teachers do not know until Thursday, August 25- I am guessing you can email the principal starting that day or you can find out when you show up that next day Friday the 26th for classroom connections. Please do not call when an email will do.
If you know anyone who moved in the area, ask them to register students. We will not have enough teachers if students wait to register, then the class size is all out of whack. No one can register the first day of school. Do not delay.
Supplies. There is a list attached to the school website. Here is a link:
For supplies in my classroom, we do not share. You use your things:
You buy it, you use it.
You chew it, you use it.
You break it, you use it.
You like your things just so, you get it to stay that way.
You drop it, you get it back- why? because it has your name on it. Depends on you, but you can put your child's first name on everything or initials. I use large labels for all the folders and journals. In my room, you get your supplies back at the end of the year. I think the students become more independent when things are labeled. They really do take the time to return things with labels. If you do not write their name on everything, I will. But bless you if you save me that time.
Extra supplies? Please leave them at home. No markers or colored pencils or fun pencil sharpeners- very distracting things. Also, If you are not sure what supply- do not get it yet- save the money, ask the teacher and get the right thing the first time. Classroom connections is a good time to ask that.
Primary ruled composition books- go to staples or office depot or order online - they look like this:
They are different because there is room at top for a picture. There is also different lines across the bottom to help with correct letter formation. The other journals do not have these special pages.
Supply boxes: my class puts this in the regular plastic box: scissors, one eraser, two pencils, crayons, two glue sticks- nothing else. We clean it out once a week. Some kiddos like the crayons in the box, some like them out. Kiddo's choice.
Back packs: make sure the binder can fit inside easily.
Start to get the kiddos ready for school by going to bed in a timely manner and waking up like school days for at least three days the week before. I found it helpful to have clothes set out the night before for my children.
Food. Our lunch time is later in first grade this year. We will have snack time, but you will need to provide the snack daily. We do not have room to store food. We also do not have a refrigerator. Plan accordingly. If you do not send a snack, there will be no snack. No food sharing. Teachers will not be providing snacks or food at school.
PTA- our school has a PTO called FAST. Please consider supporting them by joining at the beginning of the year.
Enjoy the rest of the summer! Keep on reading and remember that you have access to DreamBox Learning all summer!! I love the beginning of a new school year!! The possibilities are endless.
The first day of school is Monday, August 29- dress prepared for gym... just in case.
